Moving home creates rushed buying decisions
The problem with moving is not just packing. It is the pile-up of small decisions: broadband, mobile signal, energy, insurance, appliances, furniture, parking, travel and replacement basics. Rushed decisions are where poor-fit purchases happen.
Broadband and mobile
Check exact-address broadband availability before assuming your current provider can follow you. If you work from home, plan for installation timing, router delivery, old-service cancellation and mobile hotspot backup.
Energy and meters
Take meter readings when you leave and when you arrive. Keep photos. Check who supplies the new property, whether you are on a default tariff and what needs to happen before you compare or switch.
Appliances
Measure spaces before buying: width, depth, height, door swing, ventilation, plumbing, socket location and delivery access. A product can be good and still not fit your new kitchen or utility space.
Insurance and safety basics
Check what your existing policy covers during the move and what needs updating when you arrive. This article is not insurance advice; use it as a prompt to review policy documents and provider wording.
Furniture and storage
Delay non-essential purchases until you know the room layout. For storage, measure the actual space and check returns, delivery, assembly and packaging before ordering bulky items.
Make a 30-day buying pause list
Write down what must be bought immediately and what can wait. Waiting on non-urgent items often leads to better-fit decisions because you understand the property after living in it.
