Quick answer

A monitor arm only works if the monitor, arm and desk all fit together. Check the VESA pattern, monitor weight, screen size range, desk clamp clearance and cable routing before choosing an arm.

Compatibility checklist

  • Confirm the monitor has a VESA mount pattern or a supported adapter.
  • Check the monitor weight without the stand against the arm’s supported range.
  • Check screen-size limits, especially for ultrawide or curved displays.
  • Measure desk thickness, rear clearance and any modesty panel or cable tray obstruction.
  • Confirm the arm movement range will not hit a wall, shelf or second screen.

Common blockers

Thin glass desks, shallow desks, curved monitor backs, recessed VESA mounts and heavy ultrawide panels can all turn a suitable-looking arm into a poor fit. Recheck the manufacturer’s fitting notes, not only the product title.
