Decide what the vehicle needs to do
Your first campervan hire decision starts with the trip, not the provider headline. A short break, a family road trip and a longer touring plan can need different sleeping layouts, luggage space, collection windows and return plans.
Use this checklist before comparing current vehicle pages. It is not a provider ranking, a live availability checker or a recommendation to book a particular vehicle.
Checks before you compare options
- Choose the working vehicle type first: sleeping layout, seat count, luggage, cooking, charging, toilet or shower expectations, and how much driving you realistically want to do.
- Check every potential driver against the current age, licence, ID, payment-card and named-driver rules on the provider page.
- Read pickup and return timing, depot location, handover process, late-return wording and any need for a shuttle or taxi before selecting dates.
- Check deposit, mileage, fuel or charging, cleaning, bedding, child-seat, pet, equipment and cross-border wording before treating an advertised rate as the total decision.
- Read insurance or protection wording carefully, including excess, exclusions, breakdown support, damage checks and what is payable at collection.
Avoid first-trip surprises
Do not assume that a vehicle category tells you the exact sleeping, storage or equipment setup. Confirm the current vehicle details, included extras, mileage terms, deposit, cancellation, amendments, collection instructions and return requirements on the provider site before payment.
If the trip includes an event, ferry, school holiday, long drive or a fixed arrival time, allow for handover, packing, fuel or charging and return friction separately from the journey itself.
