Airspace and flight-restriction-zone checklist

What to verify before treating a planned drone flight as workable.

shopper comparing a compact camera drone, controller, battery and carry case before buying

Quick answer

What matters first

Check the current CAA-recommended airspace information for every flight. Aerodrome flight-restriction zones and temporary restrictions can override an otherwise suitable product choice.

Before buying

Look at the areas where you expect to fly most often. If they repeatedly sit inside controlled or restricted airspace, a premium camera drone may deliver little practical value.

Before each flight

Check official current airspace information, temporary restrictions and any aerodrome zone requirements.

  • Planned route and maximum height
  • Aerodrome and controlled airspace
  • Temporary or event restrictions

What this check cannot do

An airspace check does not establish landowner permission, privacy fit, wildlife impact or compliance with the relevant Open-category conditions.
