Do not start with the fare
For a short UK break, a domestic flight can look efficient until you add airport travel, baggage, transfer time, cancellation terms and fallback plans.
Use this checklist before opening a flight search or booking page.
Check the whole journey
- Compare door-to-door time, not only flight time.
- Check which airport is actually easiest for your start and end point.
- Check airport parking, public transport or taxi costs at both ends.
- Check whether arrival time still works for hotel check-in, food and onward travel.
- Check the return leg with the same level of detail.
Check baggage and group friction
- Check cabin-bag and hold-bag rules for the exact fare type.
- Check stroller, child-seat, mobility or sports-equipment rules if relevant.
- Check whether a lower fare becomes more expensive once bags and seats are added.
- Check what happens if one person in the group needs a different ticket or bag setup.
Check disruption and changes
- Check cancellation, amendment and refund wording before paying.
- Check whether the route has realistic backup options if the flight changes.
- Keep provider, airline and airport communications visible after booking.
