Start with fit. The label and compliance checks below should change the answer only when they reveal a real trade-off.

AHA label route

Compare: You are comparing a clearly labelled AHA leave-on or rinse-off cosmetic.

Trade-off: Strength, pH and tolerance cannot be inferred from the ingredient family alone.

Decisive check: Check exact acid, concentration if stated, directions and sun warning.

BHA label route

Compare: You want a salicylic-acid/BHA format comparison.

Trade-off: Leave-on and rinse-off products are not interchangeable.

Decisive check: Check exact format, concentration if stated and current warnings.

PHA label route

Compare: You are intentionally comparing PHA-labelled products.

Trade-off: The label may still contain other active ingredients.

Decisive check: Read the full INCI and directions rather than assuming mildness.

No-acid route

Compare: Your current routine already has exfoliation or you want lower complexity.

Trade-off: You give up the specific exfoliant step.

Decisive check: Check whether another cleanser, toner or serum already overlaps.
